Sheppard strike the decider for Galway

UCD 0 Galway United 1

Karl Sheppard rediscovered his scoring touch to hit a vital winner as Galway snatched an unlikely win at the UCD Bowl.

Ireland under -21 international striker Sheppard hadn't scored since the end of April, but popped up three minutes into the second half to find the net with a sidefoot volley from Stephen Walsh's cross.

The result was harsh on College as they had much more possession and chances. But poor finishing and stout defending earned Galway a big win in their battle to get out of the relegation play-off zone.

The win moves Sean Connor's cash-strapped side to within three points of UCD fourth from bottom.
