Sheehan passes medical in Poland

Tipperary heavyweight Con Sheehan has passed a medical and will box in tonight's 91Kg semi-final at the European Union Championships in Cetniewo, Poland.

Sheehan, the reigning Irish senior champion, picked up a cut over his right eye in his quarter-final win over Scotland's Stephen Simmons last night and underwent a medical this morning ahead of his last-four clash with Germany's Vahagn Sahakyn this evening.

Sheehan, Irish captain Ken Egan, John Joe Nevin, David Oliver Joyce and Darren Sutherland will all be in the ring this afternoon and this evening for semi-final bouts.

All five are guaranteed at least bronze medals.

Light flyweight Paddy Barnes has received a bye into Saturday's 48Kg final.

Barnes, who will be taking home at least silver, awaits the winner of today's semi-final clash between Bedak Pal of Hungary and Lukasz Maszyzyk of Poland.
