Offaly’s favourite son Shane Lowry has the eyes of the world on him after a superb opening day performance at the US Masters.
The Clara native ended his round on four under - two shots behind leader Jordan Spieth and in a share of second place.
So naturally the US networks were keen to get him for an interview afterwards.
Just a shame reporter Tom Rinaldi didn’t double check a few details before starting the live interview - like the golfer’s name.
Fair play to Lowry, he kept a straight face - but Twitter lit up with viewers pointing out the howler.
ESPN interviewer just called @ShaneLowryGolf "Shane McLowry"!😂😂— Ben Egan (@BenEgan91) April 7, 2016
Shane McLowry, Rory O'ilroy, whatever— Ryan Ballengee (@RyanBallengee) April 7, 2016
Although some were ready to embrace this new sporting hero.
Shane McLowry has always been one of my favorite players.— Fake Poulter (@fakePOULTER) April 8, 2016
One viewer felt it could have been worse - at least he got his first name right.
To be honest, getting first name right and fighting urge to call him Seamus McLowry seems a bonus. https://t.co/N9Jtq5fEio— Joe Callaghan (@JoeCallaghan84) April 7, 2016
Rinaldi isn’t the only one who needs to do some homework on Lowry - whoever was operating the Master Leaderboard seemed to be under the impression he was Australian.
Research lads, research.
