Sedgefield St Stephen's Day meeting abandoned

Sedgefield’s St Stephen's Day fixture has been abandoned after failing a 2pm inspection.

Officials at the track initially announced an 11am check but decided to delay that with the prospect of temperatures rising.

However, after checking conditions this afternoon clerk of the course Charlie Moore has been left with little option but to call off proceedings.

“Unfortunately we have had to abandon as it is still only just above freezing and there is further frost forecast,” said Moore.

“There is now going to be insufficient recovery time and even if it did warm up we would end up being waterlogged.

“The staff are gutted as they have worked so hard, but we have been left with no option.”
