Ten-man St. Patrick's dug deep to regain their leadership of the Premier Division table at Richomd Park.

Saints put two successive defeats promptly behind them to take a fourth minute lead which they held onto until the death.

Ian Bermingham’s left wing cross was knocked down by Ryan Guy for Derek Doyle whose shot was blocked, but Paul Byrne reacted quickest to shoot past Peter Cherrie.

Having lost skiper Damien Lynch to injury, Saints were then reduced to ten men on 37 minutes when midfielder David McAllister was sent off by referee Declan Hanney for an off the ball clash with Stephen Maher.

Dundalk failed to make their numerical advantage pay as Saints held out for a big win.
