Rockmount send Monaghan out of FAI Cup

Michael Deasy scored twice as MSL side Rockmount caused the biggest shock of the FAI Carlsberg Cup Third Round by knocking out Monaghan United - just as they did at the same stage in 1987.

Deasy, who headed against the Monaghan bar in the first half, put Rockmount in front from a 60th minute penalty after Ken Howey had been pulled down by Shane Jackson.

Deasy then sealed the win with a second goal seven minutes from time when following up to fire past Vladimir Munteanu from Pat Keane’s cross.
