Rockmount send Monaghan out of FAI Cup

Rockmount 2 Monaghan United 0

Michael Deasy scored twice as MSL side Rockmount caused the biggest shock of the FAI Carlsberg Cup Third Round by knocking out Monaghan United - just as they did at the same stage in 1987.

Deasy, who headed against the Monaghan bar in the first half, put Rockmount in front from a 60th minute penalty after Ken Howey had been pulled down by Shane Jackson.

Deasy then sealed the win with a second goal seven minutes from time when following up to fire past Vladimir Munteanu from Pat Keane’s cross.
