Richardson suffers injury setback

Sunderland full-back Kieran Richardson remains a doubt for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Aston Villa after suffering a setback in training.

The 25-year-old has not played since suffering a hamstring injury in the 2-1 Carling Cup defeat by West Ham on September 21.

Richardson returned to training last week, but has had a slight recurrence of the injury and could miss out at the weekend.

Manager Steve Bruce told the club’s official website, www.safc.com: “Kieran’s probably 50-50 for Saturday, I would say.

“He had trained for four or five days, but then had a setback and I don’t like taking chances on players who might not be quite ready.”
