Reid to see specialist

Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid is due to see a specialist after his hopes of returning from injury were dealt a setback.

The 27-year-old Irishman will not join his team-mates as they fly out for the club’s pre-season training camp on the Algarve today after picking up an Achilles problem.

However, Reid, who missed much of the second half of last season through injury, is expected to join the rest of the party in Portugal tomorrow after sitting out Saturday’s 1-0 friendly win at Darlington.

Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Lee Cattermole, 22, was being assessed today after he limped out of the game with a groin strain.
