Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has urged his team-mates to put their disappointing 1-1 home draw with Real Mallorca down to a “stumble” and focus their attention forward rather than dwell on the game.
Last season Barca were almost untouchable at their Nou Camp fortress, picking up 55 from a possible 57 points en route to retaining their Primera Division title, but it has been a different story so far this term.
Aside from last night’s draw with Mallorca, Pep Guardiola’s men also suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to promoted Hercules in their first home game before squeezing past Sporting Gijon 1-0 in their second.
Nevertheless, Pique, whose side host in-form league leaders Valencia in their next match after the international break, is refusing to press the panic button, saying: “Now we only have to think about winning the three points against Valencia.
“We had a lot of goalscoring chances (against Mallorca) and we need to finish them off to not suffer so much. We have to think that it is only a stumble.”
Midfielder Andres Iniesta added on his club’s website: “I don’t think we have any problem, but when you create so many chances and you don’t make the most of that something’s up.
“We tried everything but we haven’t found the best option. (But) there’s no need to become obsessed or go mad.”
