Nevin looking to reach bantamweight final

Irish bantamweight John Joe Nevin has a chance to reach the final of his weight division at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Milan today.

Nevin takes on Russia's Eduard Abzalimov in the semi-finals and will be guaranteed at least a silver medal if he wins the bout.

Defeat would see him return to Ireland with a bronze medal.

Nevin and Abzalimov are no strangers to each other as they met in training in Vladivostok ahead of the Beijing Olympics.
