McIlroy drops out of world top ten

Jim Furyk’s victory at the Chevron World Challenge has moved him from 11th to sixth in the world rankings pushing 20-year-old Rory McIlroy out of the top 10 after he withdrew ill from the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa.

Lee Westwood’s third place finish at the California event was not quite enough to lift him to a highest-ever position on the world rankings.

The European number one was tied for the lead with one to play in California, but Jim Furyk birdied it to win and Westwood bogeyed it to slip back into a tie for third with Padraig Harrington.

He remains fourth on the rankings with Harrington still fifth.
