LISTEN: Rory McIlroy ‘not convinced LVG is the right person’ for Manchester United

Manchester United fan Rory McIlroy has his doubts about whether Louis Van Gaal is the right man to lead the club.

McIlroy was asked his opinion on the club’s current position at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

“The new signings I think will be good in time,” he said, before adding his reservations about the Dutch manager.

“I’m not convinced LVG is the right person to lead us. I don’t know; it’s a hard one.”

The blue half of Manchester will be pleased with his assessment of the season so far.

“Everyone’s dropping points, it looks like City are going to run away with the (Premier) League again,” McIlroy said.

The Down golfer is a life-long Manchester United and brought the Claret Jug to Old Trafford last season after winning the Open.

He was also thrilled to meet former United manager Alex Ferguson, who visited the European team to offer advice during the Ryder Cup.

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, with McIlroy also looking at the positives.

“Well, we’re back in Europe so that is a good thing,” he said.

“I think a top four finish is obviously likely and hopefully we’ll challenge for the title, we’ll see.”
