Juve salvage draw

Vincenzo Iaquinta struck twice to help Juventus avoid an embarrassing defeat in a tricky away trip to underdogs BATE Borisov.

Sergei Krivets opened the scoring for the Belarus outfit in the 17th minute and Igor Stasevich doubled the advantage in the 23rd minute.

But Italy international Iaquinta headed home in the 29th minute and then levelled the scores just before the half-time break.

Elsewhere in the group, Real Madrid ran out 2-1 winners in St Petersburg against Zenit thanks to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s 31st-minute winner after Danny Alves had earlier equalised Tomas Hubocan’s own-goal.

Brazilian Ze Roberto secured a point for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich against Lyon, scoring in the 52nd minute to cancel out Juninho’s 26th-minute opening goal.

Group F’s other fixture saw Fiorentina held to a goalless draw by Steaua Bucharest.

Arsenal thumped Porto 4-0 at the Emirates Stadium while Group G rivals Fenerbahce and Dynamo Kiev drew 0-0 in Turkey.

Manchester United claimed a comfortable 3-0 win at Danish outfit Aalborg while Marcos Senna secured a 1-0 home win for Villarreal against Celtic in Group E’s other clash.
