Jurgen Klopp explains 'easy decision' to drop Liverpool 'keeper Karius

Jurgen Klopp has dropped goalkeeper Lorus Karius for Liverpool's Premier League clash with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Klopp made the move after Karius made mistakes in recent games against Bournemouth and West Ham, despite publicly defending the 23-year-old from criticism.

Simon Mignolet, who lost his place to Karius earlier this season, is recalled to the starting line-up with Karius dropping to the bench.

“There was a lot of talk around this position in the last few weeks. There’s absolutely no reason for pushing Loris through this situation,” said Klopp on Sky Sports.

“It’s a long-term project. There’s no reason to push it, especially when you have a goalkeeper like Simon who is training at an outstanding, high level.

“It was an easy decision, that's all.”
