It has been a disappointing day for Team Ireland in the pool as both competitors failed to progress from the heats of their events.
First up was Barry Murphy who came second in his heat, but his time of 22.76 seconds was not enough for him to make it to the semi-finals of the 50m freestyle.
His time was within half a second of qualifying and saw him finish in 29th overall.
Next up was Melanie Nocher in the heats of the women's 200m backstroke and the disappointment continued as the Co Down swimmer put in a swim around six seconds off her Olympic qualifying time.
A visibly distressed Nocher left the arena soon afterwards, obviously devastated at having finished seventh in her heat and being nowhere near the qualifying time for the semi-finals.
