Ireland hoping for Villa return

Stephen Ireland could return to Alex McLeish’s Aston Villa side for their crucial Premier League game against Tottenham.

The midfielder could feature after recovering from a hip injury and a more recent hamstring problem but striker Emile Heskey (Achilles) is still a doubt.

Defender James Collins and midfielder Chris Herd will wait to see if they are included in the starting line-up following their involvement in an incident at a nightclub after the club’s annual awards event in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Provisional squad: Given, Guzan, Hutton, Lichaj, Dunne, Collins, Cuellar, Herd, Baker, Bannan, Clark, Gardner, Warnock, Ireland, N’Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Heskey, Weimann, Marshall, Johnson, Stevens, Delfouneso, Albrighton.
