Ireland hockey coach to step down

Ireland men's hockey coach Paul Revington is to step down this summer after more than three years in charge.

Since taking over in January 2009, Ireland moved up from 18th to 15th in the world rankings and fifth place at last year’s European Championships was their highest-ever finish in the tournament.

Ireland missed out on a place at this summer’s Olympics after Korea scored a winner with two seconds remaining in the final of the qualifying competition, held in Dublin.

“I will look back on the past few years having shared so many great moments with many players, staff and supporters involved with the Ireland senior men’s team,” said Revington, FIH world coach of the year in December.
