Connections of Illustrious Blue will do a lot of soul-searching over the next few days about whether to enter the Goodwood Cup winner for the Melbourne Cup.
The in-form seven-year-old confirmed he was a stayer to be reckoned with when taking the Group Two contest over two miles.
Now connections have to decide on the possibility of a trip to Australia in early November for the ’race that stops a nation’.
“We are certainly discussing it and it’s quite a big call really,” trainer William Knight told At The Races.
“At the end of the day there are still some nice races here in England and races like the Prix du Cadran at the end of the year in France.
“Maybe we will look after him and then save him for next year there.
“There are a few things in the melting pot, but we need to make a decision on the Melbourne Cup relatively soon as far as entering him as there is an entry stage on Monday.
“I think the Melbourne Cup would suit him. There’s a big field there and when you coming from behind you are going to have a lot of traffic to get through.
“I don’t know, it’s a hard one to work out what the right thing to do is. We have a few days to discuss it and think about it.”
