Having being omitted from Warren Gatland’s Lions squad, Perpignan fly-half James Hook could line out against the British and Irish outfit, having been named in the provisional Barbarians squad.
The Baabaas have confirmed the names of 22 players who will form the bulk of the squad for their summer tour matches against England and the Lions, with fellow Welshmen Dwayne Peel and Matthew Rees also travelling with Hook.
With Jonathan Sexton and Owen Farrell vying for the Lions number ten jersey and Johnny Wilkinson putting in some impressive showings for Toulon late in the season, Hook only stood an outside chance of inclusion.
Despite enjoying impressive form for Perpignan, Gatland and Rob Howley have shown little interest Hook, who failed to start any Six Nations games.
The Welshman suffered a double-snub however, when he was also excluded from the Welsh party to visit Japan this summer, which left him available for selection in Dai Young’s Barbarians squad.
It had already been confirmed that big names including Martin Castrogiovanni and Sergio Parisse would line out for the Barbarians this summer, but the latest announcement has revealed that the likes of former All Blacks Joe Rokocoko and Nick Evans will also wear the black and white.
And Parisse and Castrogiovanni will be joined by their Italian team-mates Leonardo Ghiraldini and Alessandro Zanni.
They will line-up alongside Springboks BJ Botha, Marco Wentzel and Bath's Francois Louw.
The Baabaas have also included USA and Biarritz flyer Taku Ngwenya in the squad while Ulster's Jared Payne and Wasps' promising 21-year-old Sam Jones have also got the nod.
The Barbarians’ team manager Derek Quinnell confirmed that more names will be added to the squad in the coming days.
"Our selection process has taken several months and is still not quite complete,” Quinnell said.
“Over the next week or so we will be monitoring the domestic play-off matches in Europe and the various national squads for the summer tours.
“Also, one or two players in the squad announced today may not be available for both of our matches so we expect to add other significant names to the team in the near future."
The Barbarians start their tour against England at Twickenham on May 26 before flying to Hong Kong for their match against the Lions on June 1.
