Grealish rubbishes reports he is poised to declare for Ireland

Football fans woke up this morning to reports that in-demand midfielder Jack Grealish was on the verge of committing to play for the Republic of Ireland, but the player himself has cast doubt on this.

Both the Irish Times and the Irish Independent said Grealish was likely to play for Ireland in November, in their friendly against the USA.

However, in the last hour the player has tweeted to say there was “Some stuff in the papers today about me that I didn't even know myself”, which would seem to pour cold water on the reports.

The 19-year-old played for Ireland at underage level, but is also eligible to play for England and a reluctance to be part of Ireland squads recently had suggested he was considering making the move to the Three Lions.

Judging by this morning’s text, football fans will have to wait a little longer before finding out his intentions.
