Gentoo claims Royal-Oak glory

Gentoo finished strongly under Christophe Lemaire to take top honours in the Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp.

John Gosden’s Flying Cross, the Ralph Beckett-trained Vulcanite and Michael Jarvis’s Opinion Poll all travelled from Britain for the Group One event, but only the latter could land a blow.

Celtic Celeb looked the likely winner when sweeping to the front heading towards the final furlong but once the gap came for Gentoo, he showed a smart change of gear to grab the prize.

Celtic Celeb filled the runner-up spot, with Opinion Poll and Philip Robinson running with credit back in third.
