Forlan captain as Uruguay plan upset

Diego Forlan has been handed the captaincy for Uruguay after defender Diego Lugano failed to make a full recovery from a knee injury for tonight’s World Cup semi-final against Holland.

The former Manchester United striker is aiming to continue his form during a staggering year that has seen him land the Europa League with Atletico Madrid at the expense of Fulham.

The South Americans started as underdogs, given Holland have recorded a 100% record in South Africa so far and had Arjen Robben, Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie to call on.

Uruguay: Muslera, Maxi Pereira, Godin, Victorino, Caceres, Perez, Gargano, Arevalo Rios, Pereira, Cavani, Forlan.

Subs: Castillo, Lugano, Eguren, Abreu, Gonzalez, Scotti, Alvaro Fernandez, Sebastian Fernandez, Silva.

Holland: Stekelenburg, Boulahrouz, Heitinga, Mathijsen, Van Bronckhorst, Van Bommel, De Zeeuw, Robben, Sneijder, Kuyt, van Persie.

Subs: Vorm, Ooijer, Braafheid, Elia, Schaars, Babel, Afellay, Huntelaar, Van der Vaart, Boschker.

Referee: Ravshan Irmatov (Uzbekistan).
