Fingal stun Rovers with late brace

Shamrock Rovers 1 Sporting Fingal 2

Late, late goals from former Bohemians' players Gary O'Neill and Glen Crowe knocked Shamrock Rovers off the top of the table today as Michael O'Neill's faltering Hoops suffered a fourth defeat in five games.

The late drama was in contrast to much of a game that Rovers edged for good spells.

Thomas Stewart put them in front on 13 minutes when sidefooting home from Gary Twigg's pass.

Rovers then blew a chance to double their lead on 64 minutes when ex-Bohs midfielder Chris Turner shot his penalty off the crossbar after he had been taken down by Sporting keeper Brendan Clarke.

Despite that, Rovers appeared in command until an 87th minute blunder by defender Aden Price gifted O'Neill the ball inside the area and he gleefully lobbed it over Alan Mannus to equalise.

Incredibly, two minutes later a flowing move involving Conan Byrne, Alan Kirby and Ronan Finn ended with Crowe's shot being deflected past Mannus by the unfortunate Price for what proved the winner.

Rovers are now a point behind Bohemians with just two games to play while the win improved Sporting's hopes of Europa League qualification.
