Everton‘s matchday tribute to the Hillsborough campaigners is perfect

Liverpool is a city divided into red and blue halves but for the struggle closest to their hearts, both sides unite.

It has been an emotional week on Merseyside. On Tuesday an inquest jury concluded that the 1989 Hillsborough tragedy was caused by the police and the 96 victims had been unlawfully killed.

As the cover of tomorrow's Everton matchday programme shows, the ruling was welcomed as much by Blues as Reds.

The image has been shared hundreds of times since the club posted it this afternoon, including by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

Fans on both sides praised the gesture.

For this weekend at least, the two clubs across the park from each other are united.
