€10 bet 'would have produced €4,000 by following Paul the octopus'

Football fans would have pocketed over €4,000 if they had backed Paul the psychic octopus’ World Cup predictions, online bookmaker Betfair has claimed today.

The English-born mollusc, now residing in the Sea Life Centre of Oberhausen, Germany, has successfully predicted the outcome of every game involving the German national side.

If a punter had placed €10 on Paul the octopus’ opening hunch of Germany beating Australia, then carried over all the funds to the second match against Serbia, then to the third and so on, €4,071 would have been returned on the original €10 stake.

Paul is now tipping Spain to triumph over the Netherlands on Sunday night and be crowned World Cup champions. Punters wishing to follow Paul’s psychic powers can back Spain to lift the trophy at 8-13. Opponents Holland are available at 13-8.

Betfair’s Barry Orr said: “Paul’s predictions have been nothing short of remarkable, he’s certainly had more success at this World Cup than anybody in an England shirt.”
