Di Matteo rests Chelsea stars

Interim boss Roberto Di Matteo has gambled on resting both Juan Mata and Frank Lampard as he makes six changes for Chelsea’s Premier League game against Newcastle tonight.

Fernando Torres has kept his place up front after his first hat-trick for the club against QPR on Sunday, while Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires, Raul Meireles, John Obi Mikel, Florent Malouda and Ryan Bertrand are all recalled.

Newcastle have made one enforced change from the side thrashed 4-0 at Wigan on Saturday, bringing in James Perch for the injured Danny Simpson.

Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Bertrand, Ramires, Mikel, Meireles, Sturridge, Torres, Malouda.

Subs: Turnbull, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Mata, Drogba, Kalou.

Newcastle: Krul, Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba.

Subs: Elliot, Gosling, Ryan Taylor, Marveaux, Shola Ameobi, Obertan, Ferguson.
