Contentious penalty gives Wigan half-time lead

Wigan 2 Manchester City 1

Amr Zaki converted a contentious penalty to give Wigan a lead over Manchester City at the half-time interval of their Premier League clash at the JJB Stadium.

Referee Steve Bennett gave the spot-kick in the 34th minute after Javier Garrido was judged to have brought down Wilson Palacios but the contact looked minimal.

Antonio Valencia had earlier seen his spectacular 16th-minute opening goal cancelled out by Vincent Kompany’s close-range finish from an Elano free-kick five minutes later.
