Casillas howler gifts Slovakia a goal

Spain were beaten 2-1 by Slovakia last night, in large part because of this terrible botched save from Iker Casillas.

Slovakia won a free-kick directly in front of the goals after 17 minutes. Juraj Kucka’s powerful strike got through the Spanish wall, but was aimed directly at Casillas and should have been stopped easily.

Instead he made a complete mess of the save and Slovakia had the lead.

The Real Madrid keeper’s mistake dominated the internet reaction and Spanish headlines today, with an increasing number of people asking how the Spanish manager Vicente del Bosque can justify choosing Casillas over the in-form Manchester United No 1, David de Gea.
