Boateng gets first start for Blues

Manchester City v Newcastle

Joey Barton returned to Manchester City for the first time this afternoon since his controversial time at the club came to an end three years ago.

Barton was part of a Newcastle midfield tasked with the job of subduing a team unrecognisable from the one he left three years ago.

Jerome Boateng was handed his first Premier League start for the Blues, with Joleon Lescott introduced at left-back for a City side who, briefly at least, would go second with a win.

Teams:

Man City: Hart, Boateng, Toure, Kompany, Lescott, De Jong, Barry, Silva, Toure Yaya, Milner, Tevez.

Newcastle: Krul, Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Ben Arfa, Nolan, Tiote, Barton, Gutierrez, Ameobi.
