Australia have just set the highest T20 score of all time, a week after England smashed the ODI record

The world of cricket is only just coming to terms with England’s record One Day International score of 444-3, set last week against Pakistan.

But one week since, another mammoth record has been broken, with Sri Lanka’s 2007 record international Twenty20 total of 260-6 against Kenya the latest to fall.

Australia’s innings was not just the highest in international cricket, but equal highest at all levels, beating the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s total of 263-5 on wickets lost.

The internet was astounded.

Others quickly came to the realisation that Sri Lanka had lost two world records in the space of a week.

And it was unfortunate that Sri Lanka, who Australia made the record total against, had the option to bat first.

Glenn Maxwell couldn’t have done it alone, but he almost did. Twenty20 centuries are rare and mysterious things…

What a way to answer your critics!

Of course, Sri Lanka have the chance to immediately take the record back, as they chase down Australia’s total. It is, however, unlikely.
