Arsenal’s shock defeat at Everton was the result of some pretty insufficient marking from Arsene Wenger’s side – and as a result there was only one man Gooners pined for: Shkodran Mustafi.
The German defender was signed for a sizeable transfer fee in the summer, and has an impressive record to boast: Arsenal remain unbeaten with him in the team.
Given that the two goals Arsenal conceded at Goodison Park were headers, it didn’t take long before people started to notice the absence of the 24-year-old.
Mustafi injured and we lose first game without him. No coincidence.— Sam (@samuelJayC) December 13, 2016
Meanwhile other fans saw an opportunity to close the gap on a Mustafi-less Arsenal side.
City will struggle without aguero just like I said arsenal weak without mustafi we need to beat palace and climb that table— Manchester Bro (@Manchesterbro1) December 13, 2016
Some tried to disprove the theory that Arsenal can’t win without their new defender.
So if Mustafi doesn't play, Arsenal cannot even Salvage a point? I thought there was a pre Mustafi era where games were won.— Nur' (@kassnur) December 13, 2016
But mostly the fans acknowledged the importance of Mustafi.
Supporting Mustafi rather than Arsenal is always an option though?
Just supporting Mustafi from now on, still unbeaten.— Paddy (@VieiraPaddy) December 13, 2016
