Antrim fall to Fermanagh after costly red card

Fermanagh 1-13 Antrim 0-8

By Coilin Duffy

Fermanagh avenged last year’s Ulster SFC defeat to Antrim, to take a well merited eight-point win over the Saffrons at Brewster Park, Enniskillen this afternoon.

Pete McGrath’s charges never trailed during this game, as they held out to book a semi-final date with Monaghan.

The sides were evenly matched in the opening quarter, but the 30th minute dismissal of Sean McVeigh on a straight red card for Antrim, after making a high challenge on Ciaran Flaherty, proved costly for the Saffrons.

0-4 to 0-3 in arrears at this stage, Antrim found themselves 0-6 to 0-4 behind at half-time, with Barry Mulrone and Sean Quigley on target late in the half for the hosts.

CJ McGourty kept Antrim in touch from placed balls, but Mulrone and Quigley continued to keep the men in Green and White ticking over.

Daniel Kille was also impressive for the hosts who led by 0-13 to 0-8 with six minutes remaining.

Fermanagh wrapped up this game with Sean Quigley despatching a penalty goal deep into injury-time.
