Another Wembley defeat for England

Another Wembley defeat for England

England 0 Germany 1

England suffered a second successive Wembley defeat for the first time in 36 years as old foes Germany claimed a 1-0 victory in tonight’s friendly.

Goalkeeper Joe Hart – dropped by Manchester City and restored to the England starting XI as one of nine changes following Friday’s 2-0 loss to Chile – made a number of fine saves, but could do nothing about Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker’s 39th-minute header.

Andros Townsend hit the post after 57 minutes, but the loss to a largely second-string Germany showed how much work is still required of Roy Hodgson’s men in the seven months before the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
