This distinctive double gable fronted bungalow near Newmarket on Fergus, Co Clare, has been given a slightly Spanish style look by its owners.
“It was something my wife saw in a book,’’ reveals the man of the house explaining that the unusual shape at the front has been achieved by adding on wings at the sides. The architect who designed it for them 31 years ago also included a bay window, an arched doorway and some decorative fascia boards to achieve the Spanish-style look they wanted.
It started out as a double gabled bungalow with one bay window and an attached garage but the owners later replaced the garage with an extension and added on a second bay window as well an arched one.
When they built it, they also put in two stables and a sand arena at the back for their daughter’s ponies. “The ponies are long gone now and the sand arena is now being used as a dog run,’’ reveals the owner.
The interior of the 1,600 sq ft three bed property has been finished to a high standard with marble tiled as well as oak and Indian slate flooring. It was comprehensively redecorated by the owners around four years ago.
