Their love for athletics was to set Lynda O’Donovan and Timothy Harrington on track for romance.

Bandon native Lynda and Timothy, from Ballinspittle, met 15 years ago.

“Tim ran for Courceys AC and I ran for Bandon AC. Tim began coming training in Bandon as there were more athletes his age to train with and we became very good friends,” said Lynda.

“It wasn’t until I actually stopped going to athletics that we became a couple, nine-and-a-half years ago.”

Lynda was surprised and delighted in September of last year when Timothy popped the question.

“We got engaged on September 7, 2018, at home,” she said.

“It was completely out of the blue, for me, to see Tim, on a random Friday evening, get down on one knee!”

They were married recently in Holy Trinity Church, Ballinspittle, by Fr Eoin Moore and both sets of parents, Geraldine and John O’Donovan and Jo and Teddy Harrington, led the toasts to the newlyweds’ happiness at the reception in the Celtic Ross Hotel.

The couple’s wedding party was a real family act, featuring all the bride and groom’s siblings.

Lynda’s sister Michelle O’Donovan joined forces with Tim’s two sisters Siobhan Harrington and Sheila Deasy in the role of bridesmaids while Tim’s brothers Francis Harrington and Padraig Harrington were groomsmen along with Lynda’s brother Tadgh O’Donovan.

The bride’s cousin Niamh Kirby was the church singer and also sang for the couple’s first dance.

Close family friends Tim and Geraldine Murray supplied the wedding-party transport, two Range Rovers.

“They have always been a huge part of my life growing up so it was lovely to have them so involved,” said Lynda Lynda looked super-stylish in a Kenneth Winston dress sourced in Brides of Eire in Clonakilty and Tim and his party were kitted out by Simply Suits, Cork.

The bridal hairstyling was by Bandon hair salon Neroli with makeup by Crazydolls.

Photographer Ian Cronin and videographer Greg Mulcahy captured the big day on camera and Daisy Chain in Kinsale looked after the floral arrangements.

“It was a fantastic day from start to finish, we really couldn’t have imagined it going any better.

"It was very relaxed and we just had the best party ever,” said Lynda.

“When we initially spoke with Marie, the wedding co-coordinator in the Celtic Ross, our ‘brief’ for her was that we really wanted to throw a great party and she and the team certainly delivered on that.

"Everything went smoothly and even though the weather wasn’t the best it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits!”

The newlyweds, who are based in Bandon, chose South Africa and Dubai as their honeymoon destinations.
