Childhood sweethearts Michaela Murphy and Trevor Keating were well placed to enjoy a stylish wedding celebration considering the bride is an interior design architect.

Michaela and Trevor, a software engineer, chose an art-deco-meets-art-nouveau theme for their nuptials.

“We had elements of both styles reflected throughout,” said Michaela.

“All our signage and stationery were designed and illustrated by my best friend and ‘bridesmate’ on the day, Ethan Desmond.

"Our beautiful wedding cake was also of this style, and made by the super-talented Trace of Cakes.”

Both from Cork City, they were married in the city’s Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne (North Cathedral) by Fr Tomás Walsh and held their reception in Springfort Hall Country House Hotel, Mallow.

Michaela’s parents Eileen McCarthy and Junior Murphy and Trevor’s mum and dad Paula and Eddie Keating helped lead the toasts to the newlyweds’ future together.

Joining forces with bridesmate Ethan to ensure all went to plan also were the bride’s sisters Désirée O’Connell (maid of honour), Anna Murphy and Sophia Murphy (bridesmaids) and her niece Ruby Kenny (bridesmaid).

Meanwhile lending their support also were Trevor’s brother and best man Eddy Keating along with his friends Daniel O’Leary, Michael Heaphy and Shane O’Riordan who shared groomsman duties with Trevor’s nephew Evan Green.

Michaela’s niece Amélie was flowergirl while Trevor’s niece Kayla helped the couple’s mothers present the gifts during the offertory procession.

Michaela’s godson Jacob was pageboy and her nephew Izaac was an usher.

Michaela and Trevor have been together since their teenage years.

“We were in third year of school, in 2007 (studying for our Junior Cert pres at the time) when Trevor asked me to be his girlfriend,” said Michaela.

“I was smitten! We grew up with each other, really.”

He popped the question on June 22, 2017.

“We were on holiday in Miami and the Bahamas on a cruise,” said Michaela.“On our final day, we docked in the beautiful Key West in Florida.

We spent the morning exploring the place, and as we were walking through Key West Historic Memorial Sculpture Garden, I turned around to find Trevor down on one knee — and of course I said yes!

On their big day, Bianconi Wedding Cars provided the stylish transport and both father and mother-of-the-bride walked her down the aisle.

Together with Springfort Hall’s wedding co-ordinator Marcella Rhattigan, the couple ensured all the tables were named after places and cities special to the bride and groom.

“The top table was named Key West, Florida, after the island city where we got engaged exactly two years to the date previously,” said Michaela.

After the meal, guests were treated to a fire show by Passepartout, which was performed to songs from The Great Gatsby movie soundtrack — a nod to the art deco aspect of the wedding theme.

The band Electric Circus then took to the stage.

“They were absolutely fantastic, the floor was never empty, they even had me up on stage singing with them for ‘Teenage Dirtbag’!” said Michaela.

“Our first dance was ‘Umbrella’ by Rihanna. This song was the anthem of the summer 2007, the year we got together.

"I also had a father/daughter first dance with my dad to ‘Harvest Moon’ by Neil Young.”

Michaela dazzled in a wedding dress by Mori Lee sourced in the Vows bridal boutique in Blarney.

Photographer Eddie Hennessy captured the big day on camera, as did DG Videos, and Papillon Flowers created the floral arrangements.

The bride and groom jetted to Thailand for their honeymoon.
