They first connected through the social media site, Bebo, and 14 years later Susan Buckley and Danny McCarthy tied the knot.

Danny, from Carrigadrohid, popped the question on Valentine’s night, 2017, and he and Susan, from Aherla, exchanged vows recently in St Joseph’s Church, Cloughduv, in a Mass led by Reverend Bernard Donovan.

“I married my childhood sweetheart — we’ve been together since we were 15,” said Susan.

Wedding photographer, John Sexton, whisked the newlyweds off to a number of Kerry scenic spots, including Killarney Golf Course, overlooking Lough Leane, and Aghadoe for their photoshoot, while John Mollaghan of Moments Videos captured the wedding celebrations on film also.

Susan and Danny then rejoined their guests at the reception venue, the Killarney Oaks Hotel, where the bride’s parents, Nóirín and Anthony Buckley, and the groom’s mother and father, Mary and Denis McCarthy, were among those toasting to their future together.

Susan’s sister, Elizabeth Long, was her maid of honour, and her friends, Helen O’Driscoll, Ann-Maire Lucey, Deirdre McAuliffe and Carol Hogan, were bridesmaids.

Danny’s friend, John Buckley, was his best man with his brother, Shane McCarthy, and friends, Aidan Deasey, Darragh Ring and Darren Shine, as groomsmen.

“Our big day was amazing,” said Susan. “Everything went to plan. Both of us were very easygoing.”

Their only complaint? “The day flew by so quickly.”

The couple moved into their new home in Aherla days before their wedding.

“Completing the house was such a big aspect of our lives — building a house can be stressful, but we got there. We’ve never lived together so it should be interesting,” said Susan.

Susan looked picture-perfect in a wedding dress sourced in the Moderne boutique in Cork, while Danny and his party bought their suits in Suits Select in Tralee.

The bridal make-up was by Liz McCarthy with hairstyling by Revo Hair & Beauty, Cork.

Their honeymoon took the newlyweds to Cancun for a week before they spent four nights in Las Vegas, a night in Miami and then embarked on a week-long Caribbean cruise.

Susan is a hairstylist with Revo Hair & Beauty, Parnell Place, Cork, while Danny is a truck driver with Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland.
