Throughout pregnancy, your body changes so quickly and in ways you might not expect, so it’s often tough to know what to wear. Pregnant celebs who have a team of stylists on hand to help however, and currently, maternity fashion is having quite a moment on the red carpet.
Pregnancy dressing doesn’t have to be about shapeless smocks and stretch pants – although they definitely do have a place – and here are some of the famous faces showing us how dressed up maternity style is done…
Danielle Brooks wasn’t going to let pregnancy change her bold style. She’s a close friend of designer Christian Siriano, so it made sense for her to ask him to create a bespoke sequinned turtleneck gown with a matching tuxedo jacket and wide brimmed hat.
However, at the start of her pregnancy Brooks found dressing herself tricky, telling InStyle: “I wanted to feel amazing and beautiful in clothing, but I felt like a fish out of water. When you’re plus-size it’s harder; people think you can just size up, but it doesn’t quite work that way because everyone’s body is so different.”
That’s why she’s curated a collection with Universal Standard of clothes for all kinds of mothers, including women at all stages of their pregnancy and those who are postpartum.
Anne Hathaway is expecting her second child, and by now she’s got her pregnancy style down to a tee. She went all out for the premiere of her new Amazon show Modern Love, wearing a custom Oscar de la Renta asymmetric top and matching white trousers. The ruffles demonstrate how pregnancy dressing doesn’t just have to be about hiding your bump, but can emphasise it as well.
Model Ashley Graham is expecting her first child with husband Justin Ervin, and she’s been open about her pregnancy on Instagram, covering everything from workouts to stretch marks. She’s also been giving a masterclass in dressing a growing bump – like at this recent premiere, where she donned a sleek long-sleeved turtleneck dress with strappy heels and an elegant updo.
Christina Milian is another celebrity who shows you don’t have to be scared of skin-tight outfits when pregnant. She went to an event in September wearing a form-fitting hot pink dress, proving that long sleeves and high necks really are the maternity style right now.
Not only is Jenna Dewan expecting her second child (with partner Steve Kazee), but she’s also been out and about promoting her new book called Gracefully You: Finding Beauty and Balance. For an event she wore a ruffled black dress from the label By Johnny, in a look her stylist Brad Goreski referred to as an “LBD – Little Bump Dress”.

Petra Němcová is a supermodel, so it’s no surprise that she knows how to make pregnancy work for her. She’s well known for her philanthropy and environmentalism, and she makes sure her fashion choices reflect this. Take this outfit she wore for a United Nations event: a pale pink Amur dress (a brand which focuses on using sustainable materials) with a clutch made from wood, vegan shoes and ethically sourced Chopard jewellery.
Chanel Iman is another model who is currently expecting, and she’s not one to let pregnancy get in the way of serving looks. During the recent New York Fashion Week she wore a Haider Ackermann suit – a brand which is well-known for its deconstructed tailoring, and therefore easy to fit around a growing bump.
