Podcast Corner: Podcasts to put you in the picture about fantastic films

With the popularity of streaming making home comforts more alluring, there are plenty of movie podcasts out there that will make you want to rush out for the big silver screen experience.

The Ringer, a pop culture and US sports website, has a podcast network that can sometimes feel like an echo chamber, but is also genial and fun — and they sound like fans of what they’re discussing too, rather than jaded hacks.

The Ringer also has one of the smartest film critics around in Sean Fennessey, who is usually joined on The Big Picture podcast by the more cutting Amanda Dobbins.

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the business of flicks, the show is a conversation that is always engaging.

The Rewatchables is a related podcast of The Big Picture, featuring the same voices and hosted by the Ringer founder Bill Simmons.

The roundtable dive deep on a given movie, geeking out on casting what-ifs, favourite quotes, scenes, and stunts.

For instance, comedian/actor Bill Hader was a recent guest, breaking down No Country For Old Men.

It’s a jocular, jocky show, but it will have you wanting to, well, rewatch, said film.

As it is Tarantino time, The Ringer has a three-episode miniseries with the man himself in conversation with critic Amy Nicholson, called Quentin Tarantino’s Feature Presentation.

His enthusiasm is unparalleled and, the host says, it is the closest thing to sharing a bucket of popcorn with him.

The first episode sees the director discussing his early life, for example apparently seeing the film Point Blank at age six, and how he brought those influences to film.

You've got to hear this

Vox has just released the first episode of its new series, Land of the Giants (new episodes Tuesdays).

“Each season, we’ll dive into one corporation and examine the ways it’s changed our lives — for better and for worse,” they promise.

The first season focuses on Amazon, from Alexa to Prime.
