Online Lives: Cavan blogger Karen Louise Daly on staying positive

Blogger Karen Louise Daly, from Kingscourt, Co. Cavan, loves chatting online about vintage fashion and beauty.

The 29-year-old’s blog,, is her main platform, but she enjoys using Instagram, too. She has 2,000 followers on the social media site.

“Instagram is a fantastic little mini newsfeed, which your readers can keep up-to-date with your recent posts,” she says.

Karen has connected with other like-minded people, through social media and blogging.

“I love how I’ve found kindred spirits, all across the globe, interested in vintage and Disney, just like me.

“I have made some genuine friends, since starting my blog. They are so supportive and we love to encourage each other, daily.

I am a freelance writer, too, so my blog is a great way of sharing my work with potential clients.

From time-to-time, Karen takes a break from the internet.

“Social media can be both wonderful and not-so-wonderful for your mental health, so I allow myself to take a break from it all, if I’m feeling overwhelmed.

I'm gonna get personal with y'all here so bear with me! I kinda fell out of love with blogging and social media for a wee while. I let comparison be the thief of my joy and became really overwhelmed by it all so decided to take a break for the sake of my mental health. With so many amazing bloggers and influencers out there, it can be oh-so-easy to slip into a black hole of comparison. I had a good chat with myself and that paired with the time offline did wonders for my soul. Believing all of our thoughts gives them a lot of power. They can make us feel good or bad, helpful or helpless, bright or downright awful. ⠀ So, I guess my point is that for anyone else feeling the same way make sure to look after yourself. An unknown author explains it perfectly in one of my favourite recent quotes I found online: Your mind will always believe everything you tell it. Feed it faith. Feed it truth. Feed it with love ❤️ ⠀ #thursdaythoughts #littlestoriesofmylife #thinkingoutloud #littlepennythoughts #alittlevintagelady #journey #mentalhealth #thisjoyfulmoment #petitejoys #darlingmovement #vintagelover⠀ #simpleandbeyond #liveauthentic #theartofslowing #momentsofmine #persuepretty #visualcrush #irishblogger

“It can be hard to keep up with how fast-paced it can be and, unfortunately, how fake it can be, so don’t let yourself get bogged down by it all.

If it no longer feels fun, I stop and take a break for a while. I did take a few months off from posting, but I’m back, rearing to go.

She describes herself as a “vintage gal, in a modern world”.

“A Little Vintage Lady is my outlet for everything, from personal style, travel, decor, and beauty (and lots of Disney, too!) to helpful guides for other, like-minded vintage guys and dolls.”

Karen strives to share positivity with her followers.

I always focus on the positive and stand by this rule with my blog and Instagram: If it’s not positive, I don’t post it, and I don’t share it.

She says it takes a lot of effort to make blogging look effortless and that it takes a lot of hard work to build a platform.

“Building readers and followers take lots of time and there is no shortcut.

“There are so many bloggers in the industry and the bar for quality of content is so high, so think about what sets you apart and then create content around that.

“There’s always a place for something new, if it’s good and it attracts people.

“Oh, and don’t be fooled by all those glamourous Insta shots. It’s hard work!”
