From a €48k doll's house to chandeliers and Hollywood legends, we have all the latest from the world of art and antiques.

Doll’s house

A doll’s house sold for a hammer price of €48,000 at Fonsie Mealy’s summer sale last week. The Travelling Baby House, the top lot of the auction, had been estimated at €3,000-€4,000.

The c1810 house is of a type referred to in Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift. It was from the Vivienne Greene collection and the proceeds from the sale are to be distributed to Irish children’s charities.

Timeless appeal

The Irish Antique Dealers Fair takes place at the RDS from September 13-15.Entitled Timeless, the fair features pieces of furniture, jewellery and art ranging right into the contemporary.

Hollywood legend

Collectibles from the career of Mae West, the 1930s US actress, singer, playwright, screenwriter, comedian and sex symbol, will come up at Julien’s Auctions in Hollywood on November 1 and 2.

The sale will showcase ornate headdresses, tiaras, jewellery, wigs and gowns. The star coined oneliners such as “when I’m good I’m very good, but when I’m bad I’m better”. The sale will be live and online.

Brisk bidding

The most expensively estimated lots failed to get away at the opening session of the Kinsale auction by Ryans of Castlemartyr and Matthews of Oldcastle last Monday. The Colombian emerald ring featured last Saturday in Irish Examiner Property & Interiors did not sell but a diamond and sapphire ring made €5,000 and a Ceylon sapphire ring sold for €4,000.

A William IV dining table made €1,600 but many lots — like the Art Deco cocktail shaker which we also featured here last week — sold for €100 or less. Bidding was brisk and the auction proceeded at a fast pace of well over 100 lots per hour.

Antiques fair

The Birr Vintage Weekantiques fair takes place tomorrow and on Monday.Organised by Hibernian Antique Fairs, this is a hugely popular annual event.

The fair will unfold in the County Arms Hotel, Birr, Co Offaly. The opening hours of the fair are from 11am-6pm.
