Trend of the week: Paisley - boho’s favourite floral motif

East meets West with boho’s favourite floral motif, says Annmarie O’Connor.

Inspiration

From bohemia to psychedelia, the paisley print has always been a free-spirited totem. Originating in Persia, this historic symbol of life and eternity was adopted from Qajar and Pahlavi dynasties by Indian iconography before heading West in the 16th century.

Come the 1960s, the bent cedar pattern would gain mainstream popularity thanks to the Summer of Love, hippie counterculture, and, of course, The Beatles.

Its current redux speaks to the seasonal archetype of the global traveller – beach-bound, sweet on the surf and buoyed up on good vibes. Right on.
