Much has been made of Katie Holmes’s fashion comeback of late, and the actor put on another stylish display this week when she attended the Marc Cain show at Berlin Fashion Week.
Posing for photographers on the red carpet, the 41-year-old went for an edgy all-black look by the German label which combined a belted wool coat with lace detailing, leather trousers, pointed-toe heels and an on-trend circular handbag.
Whether she’s keeping it low-key for fashion week or dressed up to the nines, the former Dawson’s Creek star always look chic and has rarely put a fashionable foot wrong during more that two decades in the spotlight.
Here, we look back at some of our favourite Katie Holmes red carpet moments…
1. Vanity Fair Oscars party 2007
Holmes married Tom Cruise in 2006 and during their five-year marriage the couple gave us a slew of glamorous celebrity style moments.
One of the first was at the 2007 Vanity Fair Oscars Party, at which Holmes wore a stunning ruffled rose pink and caramel dress by Armani Prive.
2. Valkyrie premiere
It was during her marriage to Cruise that Holmes had her hair cut into the now iconic glossy bob.
Complementing the chin-length bob, at the UK premiere of Valkyrie the American actor chose a strappy 1920’s flapper-style beaded dress by Escada which she teamed with black tights and lace-up sandals.
3. National Movie Awards 2010
Holmes knows that if you keep it simple on the red carpet you can’t go wrong.
Case in point? This chevron-striped maxi dress from the 2010 National Movie Awards in London, which she paired with a simple drop necklace and black peep-toe heels.
4. Met Gala 2014
Equally, Holmes knows that on occasion it’s fun to push the boat out fashion-wise, which is why her Met Gala gowns are always a success.
At the 2014 fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art the actor was dressed by Marchesa in a canary yellow off-the-shoulder gown that drew comparisons to Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
5. Met Gala 2017
The Met Gala’s 2017 theme, Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons, was a tricky one, seeing as the Japanese designer’s clothes are not the most flattering or red carpet-friendly.
Holmes may not have adhered strictly to the theme, but she looked spectacular in a bespoke petrol blue Zac Posen gown cut in the designers’ typical fishtail style.
6. Met Gala 2019
Holmes teamed up with Posen again last year for the Met Gala, which was themed around Susan Sontag’s famous essay Camp: Notes on Fashion, donning a purple and black tulle halter neck gown with magenta feather detailing at the neckline.
Posen has since sadly had to close his business, so it will be interesting to see whether he creates a dress for Holmes at this year’s Gala or if she goes with another designer brand.
