Get down to these free music podcasts at Cork podcast festival this weekend

Cork’s first Podcast Festival is happening in various venues across Leeside this Friday, October 11 to Sunday, October, 13.

The three-day event features an eclectic line-up of some of the very best Irish and International podcasting talent, welcoming hosts from all walks of life, like Tara Flynn, Blindboy, The West Cork Podcast, Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart, Alison Spittle, and It Galz, as well as a diverse line-up of musical discussions and performances.

Music lovers, why not check out these free admission events over the weekend:

The Metal Cell - Plugd Records at 8.30pm on Friday, October 11

The Metal Cell with Richie Le Faux podcast sets out to promote Irish Metal by talking to the bands, promoters and crucially the fans of this great genre, from those that were born in the 60's,70's, and 80's, up to the teenagers now who are banging out the riffs and landing on our heads.

Cork band The Magnapinna will join Richie on stage for this special live podcast.

Independent Music Podcast - Plugd Records at 6.30pm on Saturday, October 12

Meet the makers of The Independent Music Podcast - a weekly show running since 2010 hosted by Anthony Chambers and Gareth Main at Plugd.

The Independent Music Podcast brings you ten new tracks from artists from across the world.

In more than 200 episodes they have promoted over 2,700 independent artists and record labels and reach thousands of pairs of ears every week.

You’ll find the music you love, music you hate, music you don’t understand, and music that’ll change your life.

Irish Music Industry Podcast - The Kino at 9pm on Saturday, October 12

The Irish Music Industry Podcast picks apart the mechanism of the Irish music sector in an effort to understand what makes it tick.

From well-worn road warriors to eager newbies, all stories, advice, wisdom and occasional tales of woe come straight from the horse’s mouth.

The podcast has been tailored to suit music industry professionals, those hoping to get a start in the sector, and anyone interested in sussing out what goes on behind and around music in Ireland today.

For their first Live Podcast event, host Mark G will be joined on stage by musicians Clare Sands and Junior Brother, along with Michael Carr from Blue Monkey PR and ‘Select Irish’ on Cork's 96FM.

The Point of Everything - The Kino at 6pm on Sunday, October 13

The Point of Everything is a music and arts podcast hosted by journalist Eoghan O'Sullivan that has been running since July 2015.

With more than 130 episodes in the archives, the show sees artists go in-depth on their creative process, the arts community in Ireland, and inspiration.

Guests have included Choice Prize winners such as Rusangano Family, Ships, O Emperor and Delorentos, criticially acclaimed acts like Girl Band and Cathy Davey, authors such as Kevin Barry and Emilie Pine, DJs Stevie G and Donal Dineen, and many more. ‍

Nialler9 Podcast - The Kino at 7.30pm on Sunday, October 13

The Nialler9 Podcast makes its live debut in the Kino with hosts Nialler9 and Andrea Cleary.

They will be discussing the Cork Nightlife Economy, Give Us The Night and Cork venues - along with a new album and songs discussion.

Guests for the evening include Ruairí Lynch (Bantum), Jamie Behan (Give Us The Night), Hope Ali (Dali Cork) and Senita Appiakorang (Shookrah / Points of Intersection Podcast).

Entertainment will continue late into the night at the Festival Club, The Kino, with vinyl DJ collective County Vinyl on the decks on the Friday night, hip-hop MVP JusMe on Saturday, and the Festival Finale with The Sing Along Social (Fleetwood Mac vs. ABBA) on Sunday.
