A new caper for the Caped Crusader?

A new caper for the Caped Crusader?

When you work in a digital industry, there’s nowhere to hide. Secrets don’t stay quiet for long, and projects often get leaked long before they are officially announced.

In saying that, the gaming industry still manages to keep us guessing from time to time. Here are our top games we think are in development, but haven’t been officially announced.

The next Batman game

With The Joker trailer hitting over 25m views on YouTube, now would be a good time to announce the latest Batman game.

We know that Warner Bros are working on it, but nothing has been revealed yet. Rumours indicate that it might be a Court of Owls storyline and a sequel to Arkham Origins.

The Court of Owls are a Gotham City cabal that have pulled strings from the shadows since the 1800s, and in the comic book plot they target Batman and Robin for assassination.

Metal Gear Solid 6

Ironically, this is the least ‘solid’ Metal Gear has ever been. Despite losing creator and helmsman Hideo Kojima, we have no doubt Konami is working on the sixth entry in the series.

But without Kojima writing and directing, we can’t imagine Solid Snake, Big Boss and the iconic cast of Metal Gear will be anywhere near their usual selves.

Deus Ex sequel

Mankind Divided couldn’t have been more aptly named.

While the core game was considered a success, with some classic Deus Ex open-ended design, Ubisoft took the dystopian setting a little too literally with their liberal application of micro-transactions.

That left some gamers torn on what is very good series at heart.

We’re guessing there’s a sequel on the table somewhere in Montreal, hopefully with a less divisive approach to monetisation.

Bioshock 4

‘Would you kindly announce a sequel?’ Bioshock will always be remembered for having one of the greatest subversive twists in video games, with gamers being led along a merry path, doing typical gamer actions at the behest of a ‘support’ character giving suggestions in their ear – only for that voice to be revealed as a mind-controlling villain, using the words ‘Would you kindly’ as a trigger.

Bioshock 4 could surprise us too, by being announced after years of speculation.

The next Uncharted

Ok, so this last one hardly takes a leap of faith (unlike Nathan Drake himself). We’ve no doubt that Sony will have a new Uncharted game lined up for their PS5.

Even if the game doesn’t come right at launch, it will surely follow in the 12 months post launch. The question is whether it will feature a connection to the Drake family or whether Sony will go in a new direction, like they did with The Lost Legacy.

Grand Theft Auto 6

Ordinarily, this prediction would be safer than Sesame Street, but the streets of Grand Theft Auto 5 are still lined with gold, which makes a sequel less likely.

With Grand Theft Auto Online still raking in hundreds of millions of dollars for Rockstar, the developers must be wondering whether to stick with the online portion and pour all their resources into that.

Still, as any Grand Theft Auto player knows, to build an empire you have to be aggressive. We expect Grand Theft Auto 6 to be announced next year, and we expect it to blow our minds.

Tokyo drifts

Meanwhile, speaking of announcements, we could certainly see some happen at the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place from September 12 – 15 in Chiba, Japan.

The Toyko Game Show used to be one of the most exciting times of the year for gamers, as big companies like Squaresoft often revealed their latest games in development.

While TGS doesn’t quite carry the same impact these days, we still look forward to news and footage coming from the event.

One big reveal that will take place this year is the next Resident Evil project. Capcom have already teased the reveal, so we know it’s Resi-related, but no one knows if it’s the eighth instalment or something different.
