Woman dies in overnight car accident in Co Mayo

A woman in her 40s has died after being struck by a car in Co Mayo overnight.

The crash happened at around 3am on the N60, Castlebar-Claremorris Road, near Breaffy Village, Co Mayo.

A female pedestrian, aged 49, suffered fatal injuries when she was struck by a car.

She was taken to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar where she was later pronounced dead.

The N60 Castlebar to Claremorris road remains closed this morning pending a forensic collision investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
