Around 15,000 people are taking part in organised walks all over the country today to mark World Heart Day.
Cardiovascular disease is still Ireland's biggest killer - nearly 10,000 people die from it here every year.
The Irish Heart Foundation is encouraging people to get out and get active, today in particular.
“There are a number of things that people can do,” said spokesperson Tanya Comber. “But one of the easiest ways to cut your risk factor is to get active. You need to get out for a hearty walk, about 30 minutes each day at least three days a week.”
