Health Minister Leo Varadkar has said he would like to stay on in the role if Fine Gael are re-elected to Government.
However, he wants the resources and the authority to make necessary decisions.
Minister Varadkar reiterated his view that years of sustained investment will be needed to fix the health service.
He added he would welcome the continued challenge if he has the proper support.
“Not alone is there not any quick fix but even a whole year of planning and a year of doing those things that I’ve outlined isn’t going to be enough,” said Varadkar.
“If I’m given the opportunity I’d be happy to be reappointed but I’d want to have both the resources and the authority to make the decisions that need to be made and that isn’t always the case as a line minister.”
