Two truck drivers die as four counties see crashes on the roads

Gardaí are dealing with a number of crashes this morning, after freezing temperatures overnight.

Collisions have been reported in counties Wicklow, Monaghan, Mayo and Kerry.

Emergency services are at the scene of a crash between two trucks in County Monaghan that has resulted in two deaths.

It happened on the main N2 Dublin to Monaghan Road between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross.

The two truck drivers died in the collision at the Broomfield junction, and one of the bodies has been removed from the scene and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

The body of the other man is still at the scene and Garda forensics are examining the scene.

An earlier crash has been cleared on the N21 Limerick to Tralee Road between Abbeyfeale and Castleisland on the Abbeyfeale side of the Captain's Table.

A crash has been cleared on the Tralee to Abbeydorney Road (R556) between Listellick NS and Lackamore Cross.

A crash on the M11/N11 Wexford/Dublin Road northbound between J17 Rathdrum and J16 Ashford/Rathnew is blocking the left lane.

Traffic remains heavy on the M11/N11 Wexford to Dublin Road northbound from J17 Rathdrum through to J13 Newtownmountkennedy South following two separate crashes.

The first crash - between J17 Rathdrum and J16 Ashford to Rathnew - has been cleared and emergency services have also cleared a second crash between J14 Coynes Cross and J13.

Temperatures fell to as low as minutes 3 degrees overnight in the midlands.
