Two people airlifted after stabbing incident on Inis Mor island

Two people have been airlifted to hospital after a stabbing on Inis Mor island off the Galway coast at lunchtime today.

Gardaí say the attack happened at around 1pm.

A man in his late 40s was airlifted by the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter to Galway University Hospital, where he is in a critical but stable condition.

Another man - aged 67 was also airlifted to hospital with non serious injuries.

There have been no arrests in connection with the incident.

Gardaí in Salthill are investigating.
